About The Phoenix Center

The Phoenix Center is a not-for-profit private school that teaches special needs students aged 5 to 21. The school’s tailored programs prepare these students for the challenges and joys of the real world, teaching important life and social skills.

“Every child deserves a quality education that helps prepare them for life outside the classroom,” Pjeternikaj said. “The supportive and dedicated environment provided by The Phoenix Center has been a constant since their founding in 1991.”

As child diagnoses of autism and learning, behavioral, and intellectual disabilities become more common, The Phoenix Center’s programming becomes more important to the families caring for and preparing their children for navigating the world outside the classroom. The Phoenix Center prioritizes one-on-one aid for students’ educational and therapeutic needs, boasting a 0.74:1 student-to-staff ratio serving 145 students from 62 districts and 10 New Jersey counties.

“The Phoenix Center has consistently demonstrated educational excellence,” said Pjeternikaj. “Its programs have done wonders for our community and transformed thousands of lives over the past three decades.”

About the Phoenix Center annual gala

Held virtually this year due to COVID-19 precautions, the theme of The Phoenix Center’s virtual gala is “Thirty Years of Excellence.” This year’s gala is honoring the Columbia Bank Foundation and Thomas J. Kemly.

The gala may look a bit different this year, but that won’t take away from the joyous celebration honoring the organization’s 30 years of professional service and excellence to Garden State students. This exciting celebration includes silent auctions, gift bags for attendees, and an appearance from scientist and activist Temple Grandin.

“We are honored to be legacy sponsors among other outstanding companies who are supporting these children,” Pjeternikaj said.
